From SCDOT.org Construction and Maintenance The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace the bridge over Broad River on Route SC 72 (Carlisle-Chester Highway), on the Chester-Union county line.
This bridge is in need of replacement due to its structural condition. The Department receives a limited amount of federal funding each year to address the state’s bridge replacement and rehabilitation needs. With approximately 1,900 substandard bridges statewide, the funds needed for bridge replacements greatly exceed the limited amount of funding that is available.
This project is tentatively scheduled to go to construction this fall
Traffic will be maintained on the existing alignment during construction, and will be shifted downstream once construction is complete. SCDOT anticipates that construction will last approximately 20 to 24 months, barring any unforeseen complications.
For more information, the public may contact Bridge Project Coordinator Michelle James or Assistant Bridge Design Engineer Terry Koon at (803) 737-1420.
