The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) urges motorists to prepare for congestion from daytime lane closures on northbound Interstate 95 from mile marker 155 to mile marker 161 in Florence County.
An interstate improvement project has been under way since October 2009 along a 5-mile stretch of northbound I-95 from mile marker 156 to mile marker 161 near the I-20/I-95 interchange in Florence. The work includes concrete patching, guardrail replacement, and bridge approach replacement.
Effective Tuesday, February 16, 2010: Delays are expected in the northbound section from mile marker 155 to mile marker 161 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the month of February. The SCDOT will continuously monitor the lane closures. Updates and changes will occur should conditions warrant. The project is scheduled to be completed in summer 2010.
Lane closures are in place 24 hours a day from Sundays at 7 p.m. until Fridays at 10 a.m. From 10 a.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Sundays, only nighttime closures are permitted. Closures are also expected on ramps within this northbound portion of Interstate 95.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid delays if there are noticeable traffic backups and if message boards request the use of detours.
SCDOT appreciates your patience and cooperation during these necessary improvements to provide a safer, more efficient interstate system. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in work zones.
