The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Tuesday, Dec. 15, concerning the detour of a portion of I-385 northbound traffic that will begin January 4, 2010.
The drop-in meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Laurens YMCA, 410 Anderson Drive in Laurens.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to the public concerning the detour of I-385 northbound traffic that will begin January 4, 2010. This is an opportunity for the public to receive project brochures, primary detour route information, and alternate route information from representatives from SCDOT and McCarthy Improvement Company.
The project scope entails rehabilitating the existing interstate from mile point 0 at the I-385/I-26 interchange north up I-385 approximately 15 miles. It will consist of milling some of the existing asphalt interstate and replacing it with approximately 10 inches of high strength concrete. The interstate will also be widened toward the median to add shoulders where needed to provide a finished typical section that has a 4-foot inside paved shoulder, two 12-foot travel lanes, and a 10-foot outside paved shoulder. The flyover bridge that connects I-26 westbound to I-385 northbound will also be replaced within the scope of this project.
