The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting in Sumter Thursday, Nov. 19, concerning the proposed bridge replacement on South Lafayette Drive over CSX Railroads, Kendrick Street and Hauser Street. 

The meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the 4th floor Council Chambers of City Hall/Sumter Opera House, 21 N. Main St., Sumter.  The meeting will have a drop-in format, with displays for viewing.  A formal presentation will not be given during this time.

The meeting is intended to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents concerning the proposed bridge replacement on South Lafayette Drive over CSX Railroads, Kendrick Street and Hauser Street.  The bridge to be replaced is located on South Lafayette Drive (US 15) 1/4 mile south of the intersection with East Liberty Street (US 76/SC 763).  Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.  The bridge replacement is proposed in order to upgrade the existing structure that is showing signs of aging and structural inadequacy.  Representatives of SCDOT will be available to answer questions.  Plans will be displayed showing the planned staging of construction and traffic.
