The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Thursday, November 5, in Darlington County concerning the proposed bridge replacement on West Smith Avenue (S-42) over Swift Creek. 

The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Common Area of Pate Elementary School, 1010 Indian Branch Road, Darlington.  The meeting will have a drop-in format, with displays for viewing.  A formal presentation will not be given during this time.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents concerning the proposed bridge replacement on West Smith Avenue (S-42) over Swift Creek.  The bridge to be replaced is located on West Smith Avenue (S-42) 1/4 mile north of the intersection with Harry Byrd Highway (SC 34/151).  Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.  The bridge replacement is proposed in order to upgrade the existing structure that is showing signs of aging and structural inadequacy.  Representatives of SCDOT will be available to answer questions.
