The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Tuesday, May 19, in Aiken concerning plans to improve a portion of Powderhouse Road.
The meeting will be between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Atrium at Millbrook Baptist Church located near the intersection of Pine Log Road and Whiskey Road at 223 South Aiken Blvd., SE., Aiken. The meeting will have an informal drop-in format with displays for viewing.
SCDOT is developing plans to improve approximately 2.5 miles of S-440 (Powderhouse Road) from SC 302 (Pine Log Road) to SC 19 (Whiskey Road). The project consists of shoulder widening, drainage improvements and road resurfacing in an effort to increase safety along the roadway. Additional right of way is anticipated.
The meeting is intended to provide information concerning the proposed project and to solicit input from area residents. Representatives from SCDOT will be available to discuss the project with interested citizens on an individual basis. Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.
