A contractor for the South Carolina Department of Transportation will be closing one lane of traffic on a portion of I-526 in Charleston County during nighttime hours for approximately two months beginning July 28.

The work will be done along I-526 in the approximate area between exit 11 and exit 17 after 10 p.m. This is an area from US 17 to Interstate 26.

The contractor, Utilipath, will be installing a fiber optic cable necessary for the state’s Intelligent Transportation System network. This involves placing conduit in the median and erecting a galvanized steel pipe on the bridges. Once the conduit is placed, crews will pull through the fiber optic cable.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the work zone.
