The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has reopened the SC 14 bridge crossing I-26 near Landrum after emergency repairs.

Transportation Secretary H.B. “Buck” Limehouse Jr. approved the emergency procurement for safety reasons and to reduce the inconvenience for the public. The bridge deck was severely deteriorated below the asphalt surface.

SCDOT awarded the contract on Tuesday, June 3, to Eastern Bridge Company, of Blacksburg. The contractor began the repairs on the night of Monday, June 9. Work took place around the clock.

The bridge was reopened at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, approximately four days ahead of schedule. Work was done on budget.

The bridge typically handles 11,300 vehicles on an average day.
