Eighty-six 5th graders from across the state will be recognized at the 2008 National Transportation Week Poster Awards ceremony, May 15 at 3 p.m. at The Zone, located at the University of South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

The students participated in the 5th annual poster contest sponsored by the US Department of Transportation. Students were asked to draw their interpretation of the theme “One Nation on the Move.”

A total of 1169 posters from 29 counties in the state were entered in this year’s contest, which was co-sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the Federal Highway Administration’s SC Division Office and the SC Alliance For Our Roads (SCFOR).

Officials from all three agencies are scheduled to speak and present the awards to the 5th graders. Winning entries were forwarded to Washington, DC for the national competition.
