The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has its employees and equipment prepared for winter weather conditions forecast to begin Wednesday night, Jan. 16.

In the Upstate, brine pretreatment on the interstates and bridges began Wednesday morning and will be completed prior to 5 p.m. Employees will begin 12-hour shifts at 8 p.m. tonight until the roads are clear. SCDOT maintenance forces in counties with interstates will have full staffs available.

In the Midlands, employees have been hooking up all spreaders and spreader/plow combinations. Staff will be monitoring the progression of the storm and employees will go on duty as needed.

In the Lowcountry and Coastal regions, SCDOT crews will be on standby.
