The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Thursday, September 27, concerning preliminary plans for the proposed widening improvements of SC Route 302 (Silver Bluff Road) in Aiken County.

            The meeting will be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Town Creek Baptist Church, 250 Town Creek Road in Aiken.  The meeting will be conducted in an open house format.  Interested persons may attend this informal presentation at any time between 4 and 6 p.m. Representatives of SCDOT will be available to answer questions and discuss the project.

            The proposed improvements consist of widening approximately 1.75 miles of SC Route 302 (Silver Bluff Road) from 0.4 miles west of Road S-2-81 (Richardson Lake Road) to approximately 600 feet east of Road S-2-1849 (Indian Creek Trail).  These proposed improvements consist of widening SC Route 302 to five lanes and improving various side road intersections. 

The widening of SC Route 302 will address many existing and future needs of Aiken County, including providing interconnections to the area’s transportation system; increasing capacity; accommodating transportation demand; improving safety; and reducing roadway deficiencies.  Additional right of way will be required in some areas to construct the proposed project.
